“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”

Hi! I’m Lucy, the face behind LSG Makeup.

My makeup journey began in 2017, when the online world of ‘makeup tutorials’ and ‘glam makeup’ had just started becoming big online. I used to spend hours after school filling my spare time by watching makeup videos and practicing the techniques on myself. I started delving into the ‘colourful’ and ‘creative’ side of makeup purely for fun, but after about 6 months of a clogged camera roll - I decided to open an Instagram page as a space to share my makeup looks. This little Instagram page was private for the first few weeks, as I was still in school at the time and so nervous about people finding it and taking the mickey out of me for it. After a bit of convincing from my now-Fiance, I turned the page to public but never tagged or advertised it anywhere and just let it be. A few weeks go by, and my posts started getting noticed by ‘repost accounts’ that share small, undiscovered MUA’s photos and tag them for exposure. I was gaining followers fast at this point, and people at school had started finding my page. From starting my page in May 2017, by January 2018 I was being sent free PR products by some of my favourite makeup brands, and had gained around 10k followers on my platform. With hard work, passion and consistency - this figure kept growing, 50k - 100k - 200k and now has landed me an incredible platform of over 210k Instagram followers. It was around his time also that I had started offering makeup services to local girls and clients that had messaged me. I remember offering full glam for £10 in the beginning whilst I was trying to figure out my skills and pricing, but also building a good enough kit at the same time. I then began working in a local salon for a couple of years to help build a clientele, and by 2019 I was able to leave my jobs to go Full-time self-employed with my Makeup business. This was an incredible achievement for me, as I had no real ‘training’ behind my back. Only a passion, talent and ever-growing skill set that propelled me into self employment at age 19. Now, at 24, I still love my job more than ever, and I could not be more grateful for the opportunities my talent has given me. I had never set out to become a MUA, in fact I never really knew where I was going to end up with my work whilst I was in school, but I do believe this life was set out for me and someone somewhere had this in my plans. My favourite part of my job is definitely the social aspect, meeting clients for the first time to them often becoming what I would consider my friends. Not to mention the feeling it gives me when a client radiates genuine confidence and beauty in the glam I have given them. In short - I love my job, and feel so grateful to make people feel incredible for a living every single day. 🥰
